Asymmetric (Split) Flaps Failure

Image
There are two kind of problems that occur with Flaps they are total flap failure and Asymmetric (split) failure. I will be talking about the Asymmetric failure. "An asymmetric, or split, flap condition happens when one flap deploys or retracts while the other remains in place (Martin, 2019)." While most planes are designed with interconnected flaps which basically means they can’t move independently, there are some planes that do have the ability of an asymmetric or split flap situation might occur. If you don’t have an advanced flap indication you will be able to tell due to the pronounced roll toward the wing with the lower flap setting as shown in the figure below. There are various causes for this system failure. One is pilot error, and another would be loss of hydraulic systems that control the flaps.      If this system failure was to happen on approach to land it could cause the airplane to vio...

The Operating Environment and Aircraft Performance

Image
The environmental factor that I chose to discus was humidity and its effect on aircraft performance. One way that humidity messes with airplanes is with the engines. The humid air has fewer oxygen molecules to burn per unit volume, therefore the engine produces less thrust in high humid air. If the humidity's high, your aircraft could perform like it's several hundred feet higher. (Udris, 2014)   When you add 22% of humidity it increases the density altitude by 146 to 8592 feet. So at the average high humidity of 72%, the density altitude increases to 8926 feet from 480 feet.  Humidity will also affect the way an airplane flies through the air because of the change in pressure that will happen as the humidity changes. When the humidity increases the air pressure will decrease. This means the wings will have less air pressure to create lift for the airplane while flying.   References: Udris, A. Ethics in Aviation

Image
Ethics why is it important in the Aviation Industry?      Ethics are an indispensable piece of the aviation industry. High professional and ethical standards are expected of everybody, from the designer/engineer to the pilot to guarantee safe flight activities.       “Safety is the natural result when an aviation professional is disciplined, dedicated and ethical. (National Business Aviation Association, 2018)".                  Ethical behavior is vital to all parts of the building and flying an aircraft. When you are building the plane you must adhere to all required steps and don't take shortcuts cause it could cause an issue later while the plane is in flight. When you do not take shortcuts you are practicing ethical behavior. When you are flying you need to have ethics because the passengers life is in your hands. You don't want to come to work drunk and try to fly a plane a poss...
