When your talking about the human factor you need to know the 12 most common causes of error within aviation, they are lack of
communication, complacency, lack of knowledge, distraction, lack of teamwork, fatigue, lack of resources, pressure, lack of assertiveness, stress, lack of awareness, norms.
Complacency happens when their loss of the dangers in the job and is accompanied with self-
satisfaction for the job completion. I believe that is one of the most dangerous for aviation because it usually happens on easy long repetitive tasks that easier shortcuts can be found to complete them which might not be the safest way to complete the task.
There was one incident that happened where 2 experienced AMT, one had 22 years and the other had 33 years of experience. They missed 140 cracks in an 100 hourly inspection on flight 243 Aloha in 1988. How could this have happened when between them they had 55 years of experience. There where multiple human factors that caused the accident.
"Fatigue – Circadian rhythm, chronic fatigue, dehydration. Lack of Resources – Shortage of qualified manpower. Lack of Resources – Attached by rope to the rafters. Lack of Resources – Had to use a flashlight to check for cracks. Lack of Training – Had only two hours total inspection training and NO human factors training. Pressure – The aircraft was scheduled to fly that morning. Complacency – They had done the same inspection many times before and didn’t expect to find cracks (Dupont-Adam, 2015)".
So you can see that its not only one thing its is usually multiple factors to take into consideration when dealing with aviation maintenance. To combat accidents like this from happening the industry has been taking into effect the human factors that could happen and adjusting to prevent them as much as possible.
